What is a REDD + project?
Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD+) projects in tropical zones seek to preserve forested areas. They also involve local populations in the sustainable management of natural forest resources.
They have several environmental benefits (climate, biodiversity, water cycle) along with socio-economic benefits (job creation).
For these types of projects we are interested in forests of at least 50.000 ha, optimal size ranges from 100.000 to 300.000 ha.
These areas must present a high risk of deforestation, for example, the owner already has permission to cut, or the area they are inserted has a high historical rate of deforestation. Usually are the areas close to the cities that present these characteristics.
The minimum term for these projects is 30 years.
